Fall Classic Final Game Attracts Over 50 Million Audience Members Across the United States, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The nail-biting 11-inning matchup that saw the Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a total over 50 million watchers across the United States, Canadian, and Japanese territories. Major League Baseball stated this represents the most-watched World Series Game 7 after the 1991 showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

Last Saturday’s epic game averaged 27.33M viewers on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. According to Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It also is the most-watched Fall Classic game after the 2017 final game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07M. This represents a 16% increase over the previous finale between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed 4th, Game 4 was 7th, Game 5 came in 8th, and the third game finished in thirteenth position.

International Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game averaged over 11 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English broadcast in Canada after the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it averaged 12 million viewers. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – where Fall Classic MVP Yamamoto allowed one run in six innings – drew over 13 million spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a single network in Japan.

Series Totals and Trends

The full seven-match series drew 15.71 million viewers on the Fox network, a two percent rise from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has seen audience growth for two straight years.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on the Univision network, the total US average was 16.1M. The overall Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels recorded 8.09M viewers, an 8% increase compared to last year and the network’s best postseason performance after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball announced that the World Series was broadcast in over 200 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in sixteen different languages.
